Scope and Content

Correspondence between Frederick Henry Smith, 1st Baron Colwyn (1859-1946), and C.P. Scott and E.T. Scott, relating to a request for support of scheme of Sir George Paish, financial journalist and economist, and Philip Snowden, politician, for a memorial in support of the temperance movement to assist in the generation of capital for the development of industry.

Also included is discussion of a complaint by Lord Colwyn and Sir H. McGowan in relation to a potentially libellous statement made in the Manchester Guardian Commercial regarding the [I]mperial [C]hemical [I]ndustries.

There is correspondence relating to praise by Colwyn for articles on the economic and financial situation published in the Manchester Guardian, and a request from E.T. Scott for a letter or interview with Colwyn on economic and financial position.
