Scope and Content

Correspondence with (William) Norman Birkett, first Baron Birkett (1883-1962), barrister and judge, relating to an enquiry as to potential employment by the Manchester Guardian and request for assistance in finding work in the fields of politics or journalism.

There is also correspondence relating to a meeting between Birkett and Scott, and a letter from Scott to [George Wooley] Gough with an enquiry as to potential work for Birkett with the Free Trade Union. Also included is discussion of a position acquired by Birkett as secretary to George Cadbury Junior.

There is a letter of introduction for Birkett from [Sir James Ramsay Montagu] Butler (1889-1975), historian.
