Scope and Content

Correspondence with G. W. Armitage, Armitage and Rigby Ltd, relating to discussion of articles written for the Manchester Guardian by Armitage on the issues facing the cotton industry, the content and form of the articles, and the responses they generate.

There is an enquiry from E.T. Scott for information on new machinery for the spinning of cotton, a misunderstanding by Armitage as to the type of machinery referred to, and internal memoranda discussing the question.

Also included is a request to reprint a piece entitled 'Market Report in Rhyme' by Armitage in the Manchester Guardian, which is approved.

GDN/A/A36/5 is a newspaper cutting of a letter to the editor of the Chronicle relating to a response to statements made in an article by Armitage in the Manchester Guardian.
