Scope and Content

Correspondence with Sara Margery Fry (1874-1958), penal reformer and college head, relating to discussion of a proposal that Fry might act as a secretary to Scott, which is regretfully declined by Fry, with reference to her work with the Friends' War Victims Relief Committee, and doubt as to her ability to perform the work required. Fry recommends Francis Birrell, writer, as a potential alternative for the role.

Also included is correspondence on a request by Fry for a notice of the Somerville College jubilee to be published in the Manchester Guardian, which is accepted, with the suggestion that Fry might write articles on the subject herself for advance publication.

There is also discussion with Fry, in her position as secretary of Agricultural Economics Research Institute at the University of Oxford, of an arrangement whereby the Manchester Guardian sends articles on agricultural subjects to the director of the institute, on an occasional basis.
