Scope and Content

Correspondence between David Roland and W.P. Crozier, relating to an application by Roland for employment at the Manchester Guardian, with details of previous experience, and the provision of specimens of work. Also included is a letter of reference from Sir Herbert Butterfield, historian.

There is correspondence relating to an offer of four weeks experience at the paper to Roland, which is accepted. There is also a request by Roland for assistance in securing employment on a newspaper, and for a testimonial from Crozier, which is declined, although advice on finding work is provided. There are further requests for temporary and permanent employment and for work experience as a sub-editor at the paper from Roland, which are also declined.
