Scope and Content

GDN/A/D9/1-4 is correspondence with Sir Francis Darwin (1848-1925), botanist, relating to discussion of a request by Scott that Francis Darwin write articles on the scientific basis and evidence for the theory of evolution for publication in the Manchester Guardian. There is reference to Scott and Francis Darwin's attendance at Clapham School. Also included is a letter from Christabel Allison, Darwin's secretary, with confidential information on Francis Darwin's failing faculties, and inability to write the articles requested.

GDN/A/D9/5-8 is correspondence with Leonard Darwin (1850-1943), scientist and eugenicist, relating to discussion of an [unknown] article to be written by Leonard Darwin for publication in the Manchester Guardian, and reference to a book by Darwin [What is Eugenics?]. There is reference to Scott and Leonard Darwin's attendance at Clapham School. Also included is a request for and discussion of an article by Leonard Darwin on eugenics.
