Scope and Content

Correspondence with William Temple (1881-1944), archbishop of Canterbury, relating to a notice of an [unknown event], which Temple omitted to supply to the Manchester Guardian. Also included are a request by Scott for an article on the Christian Order of Industry and Commerce, and the movement of which it is a part, and the provision by Temple of an article on the report of the committee on church patronage.

There is discussion of criticism of the behaviour of a reporter from Thompson's Weekly, who secured an interview with Mrs Makin [in relation to the trial of James Makin for the murder of Sadie Clutton?] under false pretences, and the provision of a letter to the editor of the Manchester Guardian by Temple on the subject. Also included is discussion of the coal strike, 1926, and the suggestion by Scott that Temple meet with Sir Daniel Stevenson, civic administrator and philanthropist, to discuss the churchmen's proposal and a potential settlement of the dispute. There is a request by Temple to contribute a signed article on the report of the Jerusalem meeting of the International Missionary Council, which is accepted.
