Scope and Content

Correspondence between Herbert Stanley Jevons (1875-1955), economist, relating to Jevons' employment as a book reviewer for the Manchester Guardian, with discussion of a request by Jevons to review books on economics and social reform, and an internal memorandum on the quality of Jevons' work as a reviewer. Also included is a request that the Manchester Guardian consider the publication of a book by Jevons on unemployment in serial form in the paper, and a request for a meeting with Scott by Jevons.

There is correspondence relating to an offer of articles by Jevons on British trade with India, with discussion of content, length, and payment, for publication in the Manchester Guardian Commercial, which are accepted and discussion of further articles requested from Jevons on Indian currency for a banking supplement of the paper. There is also correspondence relating to the offer of articles by Jevons on present economic conditions in Britain, and the political and economic situation in India and Burma, with a list of potential titles for articles, which are declined.
