Correspondence with Sir Michael Ernest Sadler (1861-1943), educationist, relating to an offer made to Sadler of employment in the business department of the Manchester Guardian, with discussion of the role, and of a potential trial period. Also included is an expression of thanks from Sadler for a reference to his move to Oxford which appeared in the paper, and for the suggestion that he might write occasional articles for publication.

Also included are requests by Scott for assistance from Sadler in the recommendations for candidates to join the leader writing and foreign affairs departments at the Manchester Guardian, which are provided, with discussion of requirements and of potential candidates. There are offers of a memorial by Sadler for Mary Beard, educationist, and of an article on the work of the Oxford Preservation Trust, which are accepted, with discussion of the subject matter, and a request by Scott for a longer article on the initiative in Oxford, which is provided. Also included is a request by Sadler that an article on the proposals for a new Bodleian Library be published by the paper, which is accepted. There is correspondence relating to discussion of an article in the Manchester Guardian, entitled 'On Making a Living', which Sadler suggests has misrepresented an address made by him at an individualist luncheon.
