Scope and Content

Correspondence with James Williamson, Baron Ashton (1842-1930), linoleum manufacturer, relating to discussion and correction of an article in the Manchester Guardian relating to claims that a letter of support from Ashton for Herwald Ramsbotham, first Viscount Soulbury, [during the Lancaster by-election] had instead been written by Captain A.C.N. Dixey. There is discussion of the criticism of [David] Lloyd George, prime minister, which the letter also contains.

Also included is an offer of congratulations from Ashton on C.P. Scott's becoming an honorary freeman of Manchester.

GDN/A/A50/1 and 2 are articles on Ashton's letter in the Manchester Guardian.
