Scope and Content

Correspondence with James Scorgie Meston, first Baron Meston (1865-1943), administrator in India, relating to discussion of a report of a meeting of the British Institute of International Affairs which was published in the Manchester Guardian, and which was not intended to be reported in the press. Also included is an apology from Scott, who was unaware that the meeting was intended to be private.

There is a request that Meston provide an introduction to a book [Indian Politics, A Survey], by [John Tudor] Gwynn, civil servant in India, which is accepted and provided, with discussion of Meston's refusal to accept payment for the work. There is also correspondence discussing the Liberal party, and the general election, 1923. There is a request by Scott for guidance on an [unknown] telegram from [Charles Freer?] Andrews, [author and campaigner for Indian independence], with a further request for a meeting with Meston to discuss the current situation in India.

There is a letter to Meston from W.P. Crozier relating to the provision of a contribution by Crozier to the Liberal [Party] fund.
