Scope and Content

Correspondence with Sir Charles Edward Mallet (1862-1947), politician, relating to an offer by Mallet of an article on the potential reunion of the Liberal party, which is declined, with discussion of the potentially controversial nature of the subject. Also included is the provision of books by Mallet, A History of the University of Oxford, and David Lloyd George, A Study, with the request that they be noticed in the Manchester Guardian, which is accepted, with confirmation of Mallet and Scott's continuing friendship, despite differing opinions on [David] Lloyd George, prime minister. There is an enquiry from Mallet relating to the lack of coverage of a Free Trade meeting in the Manchester Guardian, with discussion of the speakers, and Scott's explanation that the omission was owing to a lack of provision of new information.
