Baker trained at Manchester and St Bartholomews. He was registrar at MRI and Christie Cancer Hospital. He later became honorary consulting surgeon to Scarborough Hospital. Baker was a member of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, the British Association of Urological Surgeons and the Royal Society of Medicine.
