Furniss, of Old Trafford, was possibly the brother of Ada Furniss (see above). After studying at the University of Manchester Furniss held junior positions at the Royal Unitary Hospital Bath. He was assistant medical officer of health and school medical officer for Dudley and later for West Ham. Furniss was a member of the Society of Medical Officers of Health and the Royal Sanitary Institute.
