Graveson was born at Farnworth, Lancashire, on 10 May 1915. After studying at St John's College Cambridge he gained his medical education at the University of Manchester. Graveson held junior positions at MRI and was neurological chief assistant to Fergus Fergusson. He then went into service in the RAF as a specialist in neuropsychiatry before working for a short time at the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases, Queen Square, London. Graveson then returned to Manchester as university lecturer in neurology. In 1950 he was appointed the first consultant neurologist to the Wessex Region where he established a neurological service and opened the Wessex Neurological Centre in 1965. Graveson died on 16 April 1976. His wife, Margaret Joyce Scott, was also a doctor in Manchester.
