Emmett studied at the University of Manchester and held house positions at MRI. He was later assistant medical officer at Crumpsall Infirmary Manchester and Hope Hospital, Salford. In 1923 Emmett set up in general practice in Rochdale and was in 1926 appointed honorary assistant surgeon to Rochdale Infirmary. Emmett left Rochdale in 1935 to take up practice in the Isle of Man. He died aged 41 on 11 June 1939.
