Bala was the first Sri Lankan dental surgeon to obtain the FDS in England. From 1968 to 1991 he was consultant oral maxillofacial surgeon to Withington and WythenshaweHospitals. Bala was a fellow of Manchester Medical Society . He died on 28 July 1999.
