Lee was apprenticed to Edward Buxton in 1782 [*Eighteenth Century medics]. According to his nephew William Henry Bellot, Joseph was surgeon to the Stockport Corps of Volunteers and to the Stockport Regiment of Local Militia. He was also a surgeon in the Royal Navy, and served on the H M S Pegasus in 1789 before returning to practice in Stockport. He died after 1828.
