Educated at St.Bartholomew's Hospital, London, Brown was appointed as an anaesthetist at Bury General Hospital. He also held appointments at Rochdale, Crumpsall and the Duchess of York's Hospitals in Greater Manchester. He was later consultant anaesthetist to the Bury AHA.
