Administrative / Biographical History

Sir Robert Boyd was professor of paediatrics at the University of Manchester, and honorary consultant at St Mary's Hospital and Booth Hall. His research interests were in physiology, particularly placental physiology. He is a former dean of the Medical School, and chairman of the Manchester Health Authority. He was Principal of St George's Hospital Medical School, University of London, 1996–2003, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of London. He has served on a number of public and professional bodies relating to health and medicine.
