Furniss, possibly the sister of Austin Furniss (see below), was educated at the University of Manchester where she was awarded various prizes. She was house surgeon at the Children's Hospital in Nottingham and assistant medical officer at St Mary's Hospital Manchester before being appointed resident surgical officer for MRI Central Branch. She was later assistant medical officer at Withington Hospital Manchester, assistant school medical officer for Sheffield and assistant medical officer of health for Rochdale. Ada Furniss married Stanley Joseph Firth (see MMC/2/FirthS) in 1930 and became Ada Firth. She was medical officer for maternity and child welfare in Manchester before being appointed to the same role in Brighton.
