Cox practised for many years in Eccles and was later honorary consulting physician at Victoria Dental Hospital, and physician for diseases of children at Manchester Northern Hospital. Cox was a member of Royal Medical Society in Edinburgh and Manchester Medical, Pathological and Clinical Societies, being president of both societies. Cox was medical officer in charge of recruiting in Manchester during the first world war.
