Chopra trained in India then moved to England where he held registrar positions at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Hull Cardiac Unit and Sefton General Hospital in Liverpool. In 1976 Chopra was appointed consultant general physician at Tameside General Hospital, Ashton-under-Lyne, where he developed a respiratory care team. Chopra was a member of Manchester Medical Society , the British Thoracic Society and the British Cardiac Society.
