Bazeley was born in Bedfordshire on 21 June 1932. After qualifying at the University of Manchester, Bazeley held house positions in Copthorne Hospital Shrewsbury and Withington Hospital Manchester where he began to specialise in anaesthetics. He later held registrar positions in anaesthetics at MRI and Park Hospital Davyhulme before being appointed consultant anaesthetist at Bedford General Hospital. Bazeley was a fellow of Manchester Medical Society and a member of the Association of Anaesthetists.
