Goodier was born in Cheadle on 8 January 1924 and was educated at Withington Girls' School and the University of Manchester. After qualifying, Goodier held house positions at MRI, Bristol Children's Hospital, Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, St Mary's Hospital Manchester and Bolton District General Hospital. She was later paediatric registrar at Oldham and District General Hospital before moving to East Yorkshire. Goodier married and changed her name to Ruth Morrison. She retired to Fife.
