Doran was born in Liverpool in 1875 and trained at Liverpool University and Dental Hospital, gaining LDS in 1899. Doran came to Manchester in 1910 as dental surgeon to Manchester Dental Hospital and from 1912 was lecturer in dental surgery at the University of Manchester. Doran was a member of Manchester Medical Society and a life member of the British Dental Association.
