Bloxsome was educated at Owens College, qualifying in 1880. After working as a house surgeon at MRI, he settled at Fairford, Gloucestershire, and worked as a surgeon at the local hospital. Interested in bacteriology, Bloxsome carried out a well-publicised operation on an anthrax victim in 1887.
