Charles William Bell was a nephew of Sir Charles Bell. Bell served as a house surgeon in Middlesex Hospital before being appointed in 1835 as AMO to His Majesty's Embassy in Persia. In 1844 he was created Knight Commander of the Persian Empire. He retired from his position in July 1845, being replaced by his brother. He then moved to Manchester where he was recognised as an expert in Cholera and was appointed to the medical staff of the Ardwick and Ancoats Dispensary and the Salford and Pendlebury Royal Dispensary. In 1847 Bell was elected to the staff of the Manchester Infirmary, resigning from this position in 1855. He died on 6 June 1862.
