Bacon began his career as house surgeon at MRI and St Mary's Hospital Manchester and assistant RMO for Crumpsall Union Infirmary. He was later appointed consultant anaesthetist Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and then became consultant anaesthetist to St Mary's Hospital Manchester, Royal Eye Hospital, Christie Hospital, Wythenshawe Hospital and Baguley Sanatorium, Manchester. Bacon was a fellow of Manchester Medical Society .
