Ashworth was consultant urologist at Crumpsall Hospital, Salford Royal Hospital, Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, Withington Hospital and Christie Hospital. He was a member of British Association of Urological Surgeons, a member of the council from 1963. Ashworth became a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine in 1957 and was a member of the council of the Section of Urology from 1963. He was a life fellow of Manchester Medical Society , a member of council of the Section of Surgery, acting as hon secretary of this section between 1967-1970.
