Epstein was consultant paediatrician in Manchester to the Duchess of York Hospital, Booth Hall Hospital and Wythenshawe Hospital, and lecturer in cerebral palsy at the department of child health, University of Manchester from 1963 to 1974. He was also a general practitioner in Salford from 1969 to 1987, where he was known for his great help to elderly patients - he used to carry a set of tools as well as his medical bag. Epstein was born in Lithuania on 2 September 1904, and grew up in South Africa where he gained his medical qualifications in 1928. He was consultant paediatrician in South Africa from 1952 to 1963 before coming to England. Epstein died on 14 November 1994.
