Born in Manchester in 1813, the son of Abraham Franklin, a jeweller. Franklin was educated at Manchester Grammar School and at Edinburgh and Manchester. Shortly after receiving his certificate of medical practice from MRI in 1834, Franklin applied for the position of physician's clerk. There is a mention in the minute of his views about the Sabbath. Franklin later became a general practitioner in Manchester. In 1849 was surgeon to the Cholera Hospital in Manchester. Franklin was a significant member of the Jewish Community and was one of the founders of the Manchester Jewish School. He was also president of the Manchester Medico-Ethical Association. Franklin had retired by 1880, and died on 26 December 1880.
