Flitcroft gained his medical education at Owens College Manchester and in Glasgow. Flitcroft was a general practitioner in Bolton and held positions as honorary consulting surgeon to the Children's Homes, Edge worth, and Bolton Infirmary and Dispensary. Flitcroft was also a certifying factory surgeon and was president of the Bolton and District Medical Society and the Lancashire and Cheshire Branch of the BMA. Evans went on to develop a political career in Bolton, being a Justice of the Peace, Mayor from 1926 to 1928 and later an Independent Liberal alderman on Bolton Town Council.
