Baker was born on 24 October 1888. Baker began his career in Pathology at the naval hospital at Haslar. He was chief assistant to James McIntosh at Middlesex Hospital from 1922 until 1931 when he was appointed Procter professor of pathology and pathological anatomy at University of Manchester. Baker made important contributions to bone pathology, describing fibrogenesis imperfecta ossium.Baker retained this professorship until he became the first incumbent of the first chair of rheumatology (osteopathology) in the w. Baker retired in 1954 and died on 17 April 1978.
