Galloway held junior positions in Edinburgh before being appointed resident surgical officer at Salford Royal Hospital. He was later surgical registrar at MRI before being appointed assistant surgeon to the North Middlesex Hospital. Galloway was president of the Royal Medical Society, Edinburgh.
