Glascott was born in Constantinople in 1847. He received his medical education at the University of Edinburgh, and was clinical assistant to the ophthalmological wards, later resident surgeon, at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. He then came to Manchester where he was house surgeon at the Royal Eye Hospital. In 1876, Glascott was appointed assistant to the ophthalmic surgeon at MRI, but resigned the appointment after less than a month. Glascott soon became one of the leading ophthalmic surgeons and was honorary surgeon to the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital for thirty five years. He did much to enhance the reputation of the Hospital and was later made senior consulting surgeon. Glascott was also a lecturer and examiner in ophthalmology at the University of Manchester from 1899 and honorary oculist to Henshaw's Blind Asylum. He wrote a large number of articles and was a member of a number of associations. He was secretary and vice-president of the Ophthalmological Section of the BMA.
