Born Milos Fuchs in Prague on 22 February 1927, Fox was educated at Chadderton Grammar School and Manchester and had changed his name to Miles Fox by 1950. Fox had a distinguished academic career and was awarded the Bradley Memorial Prize in Surgery. After qualifying, Fox held resident positions at MRI, Salford Royal Hospital and Ancoats Hospital Manchester. He was a member of Manchester Medical Society . In the late nineteen fifties, Fox was appointed senior surgical registrar at St Peter's Hospital, London and held the same position at Leeds General Infirmary. He also spent some time as fellow in clinical research at the MRC in Edinburgh. Fox later moved to Sheffield where he became consultant urological surgeon at Sheffield Hallamshire Hospital. In 1976 he was given the honour of Hunterian Professor of the Royal College of Surgeons. Fox was a member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons and the British Transplantation Society.
