Administrative / Biographical History

Tony Butterworth is professor of community nursing at the University of Manchester, a post he has held since 1987. Trained as a psychiatric nurse, he worked in community nursing, before becoming lecturer in applied community studies at Manchester Polytechnic in 1975. His research work has investigated psychiatric nursing services in the move from a hospital to a community setting. In 1992 he was appointed to chair the Mental Health Nursing Review Team, which reported in 1994.
