Goodfellow, the son of Thomas Ashton Goodfellow, studied medicine at Cambridge and Manchester. He was house physician and orthopaedic house surgeon at MRI before working in general practice in Didsbury. Goodfellow was also clinical assistant at the Holt Radium Institute, Manchester. He joined the RAMC and was killed in action in May 1940 aged thirty.
