Born in St Annes on Sea on 2nd February 1908, Airey was educated at King Edward VII School, Lytham. He was a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine. Airey held house positions at Manchester and Salford Hospital for Skin Diseases before becoming Hon Chief assistant Skin Department Leicester Royal Infirmary. Airey later went to New Zealand as consultant dermatologist and had died by 1993.

Airey's brother, George Oswald Airey, b 1910, (MB ChB Edin 1937), was a general practitioner in Cheshire and medical officer to the DHS in Manchester.
