Flitcroft trained in Glasgow and Manchester. After qualifying, Flitcroft was assistant surgeon at Liverpool Dispensary and assistant physician at Newcastle-upon-Tyne Dispensary. He was a captain in the RAMC in Salonica and France. After taking the Diploma in Public Health, Flitcroft also gained special certificates from the University of Manchester in factory hygiene, school hygiene and tuberculosis. Flitcroft practised in Leigh where he was also a certifying factory surgeon. He was a fellow of the Royal Institute for Public Health and of the Royal Society of Medicine. Flitcroft died on 17 December 1946.
