Brennan was born in Ireland, but trained in Scotland, taking his MB and MD at Edinburgh. He specialised in mental diseases, but also practised astrology. He practised at various locations in Manchester and Salford. He was bibliophile, but was forced by poverty to sell his library. He died in the workhouse.
