Before qualifying, Atkinson taught remedial gymnastics at Manchester High School for Girls. During the 1914-18 War Atkinson worked in Serbia and Russia. When she returned to Manchester in 1918 she joined the Maternity and Child Welfare Department of the Public Health Service. She later started a general practice in Fallowfield. She married in 1912 and died 26 June 1933.
