William Fleming, MD, was born in Manchester in 1799, the son of Thomas Fleming. He lived in Pendleton, later Kendal, and died near Chester in 1880. Fleming was one of the founders of the Manchester Botanical Gardens and first honorary secretary of the Chetham Society.
