After qualifying, Geraghty held house positions at MRI and St Mary's Hospital Manchester. He was senior assistant medical officer to Withington Hospital Manchester before practising in Ashton-on-Mersey. Geraghty later practised in Sale, Cheshire, and was a captain in the RAMC.
