Grime was born on 18 July 1916 and received his medical education at the University of Manchester. After qualifying he was house surgeon at MRI before serving in the RAMC until 1946. Grime then returned to Manchester and was demonstrator in anatomy before being appointed surgical registrar at MRI. In 1950 Grime was appointed consultant surgeon to the Ashton, Hyde and Glossop Hospital Group where he developed his interest in the surgery of the gastro-intestinal tract. By 1980 he had been appointed consultant surgeon to Stockport Hospitals Group, being made honorary consultant on his retirement. Grime was a fellow of Manchester Medical Society and Manchester Regional Association of Surgeons.
