John Dark qualified MB ChB from the University of Manchester in 1945. He was a consultant surgeon for Manchester Area Health Authority, and a former president of the Manchester Medical Society and the Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland. Dark published a number of papers on lung and oesophagal cancer and on open-heart surgery.
