Educated at Owens College and Guy's Hospital (BA 1874 MB 1880), Brooke was one of the leading dermatologists in the country. He identified congenital epithelioma adenoides cysticum, which was termed Brooke's disease. He was physician at the Manchester and Salford Hospital for Skin-Diseases (formerly the Lock Hospital). He was a co-founder of the British Journal of Dermatology. He was first president of the Manchester Dermatological Society.
