Cox was house surgeon to the aural department of St Thomas' Hospital before holding resident posts in Bradford, Liverpool and at Booth Hall Hospital Manchester. In 1932 Cox was appointed resident surgical officer at Withington Hospital Manchester, before holding posts as consultant surgeon at Withington Hospital and Wythenshawe Hospital. Cox was a member of Manchester Medical Society , being president in 1958, and of the Royal Society of Medicine. Cox developed strong surgical units at Withington and Wythenshawe and was involved in a number of advances in surgical science. He died on 5 January 1984.
