Falconer studied at Owens College Manchester and won many academic prizes. He held junior positions at MRI and Royal Manchester Hospital for Children. He became resident surgical officer to the Seaman's Hospital in Greenwich before going into general practice in Bolton in 1907. In 1911 Falconer was appointed honorary assistant surgeon at Bolton Royal Infirmary and in 1921 was appointed honorary surgeon at MRI, a position he held until 1946. While at Bolton, Falconer was instrumental in founding the genito-urinary department, one of the first in the country, and the massage department. Falconer died after a short illness on 27 December 1961.
